Golf Theme/Mexican Theme Wedding For Victoria and Fermin

For the big day of Victoria and Fermin, the couple chose to go with a combination golf theme wedding and Mexican theme wedding. The sunset nuptials took place in the foothills of Albuquerque, New Mexico, at the Sandia Resort. The beautiful golf resort, just a few miles from the couple's home, had been under construction for three years - and was still unfinished - when the pair booked it for their unique dual-themed wedding. Being a good natured bride, Victoria respected Fermin’s love of golf and embraced the idea of having the ceremony on the resort’s golf course.

Her agreement with the location was not without the feminine desire for a romantic setting. The resort is set in the Sandia Mountains, hence the name, which means “watermelon” in Spanish. An appropriate name, considering the glowing red shade the mountains take on at sunset.

With such spectacular views and colors, 180 white wooden folding chairs were set up on the well-manicured green grass for family and friends to witness the exchange of vows against the backdrop of this stunning southwest vista. Spanish violin and guitar music injected a dash of Mexican wedding theme into the ceremony, a salute to the couple’s heritage.

Weddings with a golf theme usually incorporate the use of a golf cart as an intentional prop of the golf wedding theme, especially as the getaway car. For this unique dual-themed wedding, a maintenance crew golf cart was used to deliver Victoria to the nuptials site out of necessity – the bride was nursing a broken toe.

Attired in a white strapless floor-length wedding gown with a fluid A-line cut that gracefully skimmed her curves plus an elbow-length white veil, the elated bride endured. Victoria accessorized with shimmering silver sandals and silver chandelier earrings, and carried a nosegay bouquet of red and yellow roses.

Though one may make an association between Mexican weddings and bright colors, for this combination golf theme/Mexican theme wedding, it was a persimmon-and-fuchsia color scheme that dominated many of the day’s details. The bridesmaids wore persimmon-colored Jenny Yoo dresses in varying styles, all accented with a fuchsia sash around the waste. The ring bearer carried a dark, ornate wood box containing silk flower wedding decorations of red roses and orange ranunculus. Flower girls in airy white gossamer dresses, accented with fuchsia sashes tied into a bow at their backs, used bright Monarch butterfly clips to adorn their hair and petal baskets.

Consistent with the golf wedding theme, and also out of convenience, the guests hopped into the resorts golf carts for a ride to the ballroom, wherein was held the reception. Among the dishes served was Mexican wedding soup – a scorching fare favored by both the bride and groom. Among the Mexican themed wedding reception ideas was a Mexican wedding cake topper called “Los Muertos,” featuring a skeleton bride and groom that is a traditional symbol of a couple being together forever, even until eternity.

The Mexican theme wedding cake was not the only sweet delight. Guests were also presented with Mexican theme wedding favors in the form of home-baked heart-shaped wedding cookie favors called bischochitos that were also infused with the primary wedding colors, thanks to Victoria’s mom and the help of a family friend.
