Black And White Theme Wedding: Cherie and Johnny in Greenwich Village

The black and white theme wedding of Cherie and Johnny was the culmination of a romance that stated in college; specifically, at New York University, where campus buildings are nestled in and around Greenwich Village and Washington square Park. They still live in the neighborhood, and being lovers of the Big Apple, they wanted to have their wedding there as well.

So, it came to be that the pair held their nuptials in the school’s chapel and the reception in a loft at The Puck Building a short distance away. Having this black and white theme wedding affair downtown allowed the wedding party to stroll from the chapel to the reception while stopping to capture spontaneous pictures at various city landmarks.

One such photo-op had the bridal party pose with the Washington Square Arch, modeled after the Arc de Triomphe in Paris, in the background. Of course, the star of the photo was the bride. Cherie wore a strapless Lazaro wedding dress featuring an A-line cut crafted with sumptuous English net and floral lace appliqué delivering textural richness. A French bustle and a rear ribbon bow tied at the waist, from which floor-length ends trailed, added romantic touches, as did the elbow-length mantilla veil. Bridesmaids wore strapless A-line chocolate brown Ann Taylor dresses, while the groom and groomsmen donned black Ralph Lauren tuxedos.

Black and white wedding decorations for the reception loft delivered well-intentioned edgy elegance with styling cues cribbed from 1960s high-fashion experimentation. Specifically, panels of white silk fringe hung from the rafters to create intimate dining spaces. One of the more elegant wedding reception decorations was the found atop the shimmery-edged seating-card table where a tall chic black vase provided containment of a fall foliage arrangement amplified to stunning proportions, creating a fabulous focal point that brilliantly juxtaposed the predominately white, Manhattan-glam setting.

One stand-out during the cocktail hour of this black and white theme fete, miniscule panini dramatically served in high-style fashion atop the acrylic tiers of a clear acrylic trays suitably accented with a single white orchid bloom. Shortly thereafter, the 110 guests were treated to an Italian menu of satisfying osso bucco and risotto. For desert, there was the wedding cake.

For this black and white theme wedding reception, the four-tier chocolate cake slathered in white icing was among the most eye-catching of the elegant wedding reception decorations. Each tier featured beading along the bottom with their tops decorated by a single chain of small, well-spaced rococo-esque whorled designs. Three-dimensional floral embellishments provided additional feminine style, while up top a silver-mirrored script-like monogram cake topper created a stylish, distinctive character, resulting in a plain and elegant wedding cake.
