Fun Wedding Reception Decoration Ideas

A wedding is meant to be an honored time where family and friends witness the union of a special couple. The wedding reception is the celebration of that union where friends and family gather to congratulate the couple on their vows and to enjoy time together. Wedding receptions run the gamut of being very formal with light cake and punch to full dinner affairs and partying into the night. Whatever you choose for your celebration, the following should give you some ideas for decorating your wedding reception.

Wedding Reception Decoration Idea #1: Light It Up

Candles are a wonderful wedding reception decoration idea. They provide automatic atmosphere and can be used for centerpieces and/or table decorations. Keep in mind that the wax does melt throughout the night and it is important to have a base that will not melt or allow candle wax to flow onto table cloths. For safety and an easier clean-up you may want to place someone in charge of checking and refreshing candles as they burn down.

Wedding Reception Decoration Idea #2: Pictures of Who We Were

Consider decorating your wedding reception with photos of you and your groom from the time you were young until the day of your wedding. Include baby photos, engagement photos, pictures of when you were going through that awkward teenage phase and any fun photos you can find. Scatter these treasures throughout the wedding reception, allowing friends to see who the bride and groom are as unique individuals and who it is they have become.

If you have had your wedding pictures taken before the event, you might include these in the mix. To create added atmosphere, add some small picture frames near the photos with fun little statements about the bride and/or groom. Another option is to purchase frames in the color, style or theme of the wedding and use those for the photos.

Wedding Reception Decoration Idea #3: Pictures of Who We Are

Many wedding reception activities are missed because the bride and groom are busy socializing with guests. To help eliminate this, place disposable cameras on the wedding reception tables, around the wedding reception hall or wherever a daring guest might find it. Be sure to have a handful of your helpers encourage the use of these cameras. Have these developed on your honeymoon; upon your return you will have a fun reminder of the reception.

Wedding Reception Decoration Idea #4: Flowers, Even on a Budget

Flowers are a time honored tradition and should be a part of any wedding party. Even if you are planning your wedding on a budget you can find in-expensive flowers in your local grocery store. Ask friends to provide you with vases, you will be surprised at the number of vases that will show up.

If you are afraid that you will not find enough vases, a trip to any yard sale or second hand store will provide you with plenty of styles at prices below $1. Place your fresh flowers in prominent places, such as the gift table or the wedding cake table. Scatter the flowers among your reception tables, rotate flowers on one table and candles on another.

These are just a few ideas as you begin to consider how to decorate your reception hall. Mix and match, add to, re-create and dream. In no time your wedding reception will be decorated in a way that reflects your personality and style.
