How to Save On Wedding Bouquet Preservation Costs

So the wedding was one to remember; you've ordered your photographs, started a memory book, and now your pocket is aching because you may have to part with anywhere between $100 to $250 to afford wedding bouquet preservation services. More often than not, the costs of wedding bouquet preservation exceed the cost of the original bouquet itself.

Walk away from the silk flowers; the good news is that there are more budget-friendly options out there. Pick a day when you're feeling creative (as soon after your wedding as possible, of course) and prepare your wedding bouquet for preservation yourself. Sounds easy, but for those of us out there that lack a great deal of artistic prowess, let's go through a few user-friendly wedding bouquet preservation options.

Just a tip: Make sure you take a picture of your wedding bouquet as soon as you receive it. Take a couple shots of the bouquet, from the top and around the front and back. Now, whether you take on the role of wedding bouquet preservationist or you leave it up to the professionals, there will be an accurate record.

Option One For Preserving Wedding Bouquets: Frame It

The quickest, simplest option you have available for wedding bouquet preservation is to simply press the loveliest flowers and arrange them in a picture frame. This is simple; it is something that can easily be made beautiful and it's a great way to produce more than one memento (these are great gifts for loved ones or thank-you gifts for members of your wedding party).

Use care when you dismantle the bouquet for the preservation process, and shave off most of the leaves off the flower stems. Although it may need to be trimmed later, save the ribbon from around the bouquet if you had one and try incorporating your engagement announcements or wedding invitations into the display. Don't be afraid to get creative! You will be rewarded with a lifetime memento for yourself that you and your loved ones will always be able to cherish.

Option Two For Preserving Wedding Bouquets: Hang It Out To Dry

Another extremely simple option for home wedding bouquet preservation is allowing it to dry out. Carefully arrange your wedding bouquet (being careful to weed out the buds and springs that didn't make it through the bouquet toss at the reception). According to your personal preference, you may wish to remove all the leaves; those of you who are a little more artsy may feel the need to incorporate a leaf or two into your wedding bouquet preservation but keep in mind that very few leaves of the leaves you leave on there will make it through the drying process.

Hang it upside-down from a hook or nail in the wall for a few weeks in a warm, dry room. After the drying process is complete, you can leave it as a wall decoration or incorporate it into a shadowbox display (see next topic), depending on your budget and particular needs.

Option Three For Preserving Wedding Bouquets: The Shadowbox

The shadowbox is the easiest and most popular choice for those flower preservation rookies out there. This can be done by your florist or, with a little more patience by you. Shadowbox displays usually require a little more attention to detail and, because of the nature of the display, they must be attached firmly for the effect to work. (For those of you who don't know, a shadowbox display consists of a very shallow box with a bottom and four sides, with a frame around the opening, covered by glass).

You have a little more freedom with the shadowbox than with the others. With a shadowbox display you can add more dimension to your display; use ornaments from your wedding decorations, pictures, invitations to creatively enhance the preservation of your wedding bouquet.
