Christmas Wedding Decoration Ideas: The Splendor Of Ribbon

Much like gold, Christmas wedding decoration ideas are where you find them. And in this article I will share a few I found in what some might consider a surprising place; that is, in the book The Splendor of Ribbon: More Than 50 Glorious Ribbon Craft Projects published by Offray. Stylish accents and ribbon accessories presented in the book include a couple of potential Christmas wedding centerpieces in addition to ribbon attired ornaments and gift boxes. The later two would make terrific Christmas wedding decoration ideas for wedding arch decorations and wedding alter decorations, respectively, in addition to their use as wedding reception decorations.

The most obvious Christmas craft decorations are laid out in chapter four, titled “Special Occasions with Ribbons,” with gold being the predominate color scheme; hence the mention of gold at the start of this article. The very first project in that chapter presents the first of the potential Christmas wedding centerpieces, which take the form of tabletop mini-topiaries fashioned from moss covered papier-mache stars and Styrofoam balls attired with narrow metallic ribbons and planted in gold-leaf gilded terra cotta flower pots. Draw on the instructive project picture on page 91 to get an idea of how to decorate a wedding table using these do it yourself Christmas decorations.

For Christmas theme wedding arch decorations, turn to pages 97 and 98 where instructions are provided on crafting the ribbon attired Christmas ornament decorations. The first of these potential homemade wedding decorations is a red gift box ornament fashioned from velveteen fabric wrapped around a three inch square of floral foam. It is then festooned with gold metallic novelty ribbon around the sides and a bow of combined gold metallic novelty ribbon and gold metallic wire-edge ribbon up top.

The second of the Christmas ornament decorations is a lavish jeweled ball ornament fashioned with a glass gold ball ornament. The one used for the project photo features a dull textured surface which aids in delivering an opulent Victorian Christmas aesthetic. In crafting these homemade wedding decorations, red ribbon is not used. Instead, project instructions call for gold and purple metallic novelty ribbon, navy gold-edge sheer ribbon, and gold metallic grosgrain ribbon. Additionally, eight round blue acrylic jewels are glued to the length of gold and purple metallic novelty ribbon wrapped around the horizontal center of the ball, per instructions.

If you are wondering how to decorate a wedding arch using the Christmas ornament decorations, it is quite simple really. To get the right look for a traditional Victorian theme Christmas wedding, either make or purchase a couple of long evergreen garlands and wire them to an arbor or trellis with florist wire. Within the realm of evergreen garlands, there are many styles from which to choose, allowing for very different looks.

Most traditional Victorian Christmas decorations rely on holly and ivy. Another idea on how to decorate a wedding arch and achieve more of an upscale look is to adorn just the top of an arbor or trellis with an evergreen swag. If plans call for more of a winter wedding theme, one winter wedding decoration idea for arches is to use twisted twigs or twisted beaded wire in place of winter foliage. In the end, use the Christmas ornament decorations as wedding arch decorations by wiring them to the garlands.

The next batch of Christmas crafts decorations covered in the book, which would be ideal accents for both wedding alter decorations and wedding reception table centerpiece decorations, are gift boxes. Start out by wrapping an empty box with gold paper and then “add a festive holiday touch” with one of three ribbon design schemes. These include holly and berries plus striped wire-edge ribbon on the sides, a poinsettia plus gold taffeta ribbon on the sides, and a red rose plus elan gold metallic mesh ribbon on the sides.

Create a good number of such beautifully wrapped boxes in all shapes and sizes and then use them in piled arrangements as wedding alter decorations. After the ceremony, have attendants move the gift boxes to the reception site and repurpose them as either the principal wedding reception centerpiece decorations or as accenting wedding table decorations.

The last of the Christmas wedding decoration ideas is the second potential Christmas wedding centerpiece, which is the magnolia centerpiece project presented on page 55 along with a project picture. This multipurpose centerpiece consisting of silk magnolia flowers and buds, evergreen sprays, sheet moss, and gold pussy willow branches would make an elegant floral wedding reception decoration during any season. It would fit very well with a retro chic or Victorian Christmas wedding theme. From the project photo, it is easy to see how to decorate a wedding table with a Christmas theme by adding some of those regal wrapped boxes mentioned above. Also presented are instructions for crafting rose napkin rings for the perfect finishing touch.
