Christmas Wedding Decoration Ideas: Big Book of Christmas Crafts
If you’re seeking Christmas wedding theme crafts decorations for wedding reception tables, there are a few good ones worth considering within the pages of Big Book of Christmas Crafts (House of White Birches, 2002).
This 192 page book is chock full of terrific projects on Christmas ornament decorations, Christmas home decorations, even Christmas themed clothing. However, for a Christmas theme wedding the ones to focus on are the potential table top wedding decorations. There are indeed a small number of Christmas craft decorations that would make lovely wedding table centerpieces, three of which I will spotlight in this article.
The first of the crafts decorations for wedding reception tables is the frosty votives project detailed on pages 24 and 25. Shown in the accompanying project picture are three potential candle table wedding decorations that look like fancy Christmas-themed frosted glass candle holders. In reality, they are simply three tall clear drinking glasses attired with Christmas craft decorations in the form of printed vellum sleeves further accented with painted stencil designs.
For simple, eye-catching, and cheap Christmas wedding centerpieces, make up a load of such vellum sleeves, slip them on the drinking glasses for the big day, and set the bedecked glasses in groups of threes in the center of each wedding reception dining table. Throwing in some ancillary Christmas decor for the table such as artificial holiday greens and ornamental baubles adds a real styling bonus. Or perhaps encircle them with fake snow or white cotton batting for a wintry flourish, One final thought; to prevent a fire hazard and to keep the glasses usable for drinking after the wedding celebration, illuminate them with mini glow sticks rather than making them real candle table wedding decorations.
Another wedding table decoration idea using candles is the candle garden project on page 54. Creation of this feast for the eyes is bit involved. The single most pronounced visual statement of this wedding table decoration idea is a wooden Christmas decoration crafted “with simple woodburning and painting” using a 12” wooden charger.
To reproduce the wooden Christmas decoration shown in the project pictures, the painting part requires adding lines around the outer edge of the charger as well as around the inner edge of the rim. Not a particularly easy task for those with unsteady hands, but experience and practice should eventually win out. Alternatively, to speed things up a bit use .25” masking tape to layout the pinstripes along the edges and then paint over the exposed portions of the charger without worry of wavy lines.
If instead of a Christmas wedding theme you want more of a winter wonderland wedding theme, obviously winter theme table decorations would be preferred for reception table centerpieces. One of the ideas for a winter wonderland wedding centerpiece is the snowflake washtub shown in the picture on page 157. It is small galvanized washtub, the exterior of which has been custom painted with a snowflake scheme, and it is a real attention-grabber.
With such winter theme crafts, decorations for wedding reception tables can serve double duty as ice buckets to keep Champaign, or sparkling cider in fancy wine bottles, sufficiently chilled. What a splendid winter wedding reception decoration, indeed. Now, in the picture, there are glittering glue snowflakes stuffed into the ice for additional appeal. There are no instructions for creating these winter wonderland decorations in the book. But don’t despair; simply pick up a copy of Aleene’s Christmas Craft Quickies (Oxmoor House, 1996) and turn to page 24 to find clearly and simply explained instructions for creating glittering glue snowflakes.
