Bring The Beach To Your Wedding

The beach is a place where a lot of couples are choosing to celebrate their wedding. Not everybody is fortunate enough to live in warm and beach accessible place, or have the resources to bring all the guests to the beach. Instead, very cleverly applied decorations have to be employed to bring the beach theme to the wedding.

Begin by sending your guests message-in-a-bottle style invitations with miniature bottles filled with colorful sand and the invitation inside.

One idea to pull off the beach theme is to buy sky blue fabric and drape the walls of the hall with it. This will transform the walls to the clear blue skies that line the horizon on the perfect beach day. Hang a big, bright ‘sun’ to in one corner.

Replace all the low voltage watt bulbs in the room with bright yellow 100-200 watt bulbs to cloak to room in a sunny glow. Hang beach balls and kites around the room as beach theme wedding decorations instead of using balloons.

Continue decorating your beach theme wedding by scattering a few umbrellas around the room. Then invite the guests to sit on lawn or beach chairs strewn through out the hall or ball room where you hold the wedding. In some places, have beach towels, straw mats and have the younger or more agile guest sit, or lounge on the floor. The newly weds should sit by a white arch covered with wild flowers and ribbons.

The food and how it is served is a major part of decorating for a beach theme wedding. Think back to your favorite beach days and remember what you ate. Hamburgers and hotdogs grilled by the boardwalk? You can set up an area where there is a grill set up to serve the same foods.

Another part of a food area can be set up with picnic foods arranged in wicker baskets. Sandwiches, fried chicken, chowder with oyster crackers, and shrimp cocktail are a few choices of food that will bring the allure of the beach to a wedding. Serve the food with a fake lobster tail nestled in between the platters of food. The platters could be trays decorated with beach scenes.

The drinks are also a part of the beach theme wedding decor. Instead of carbonated beverages, serve lemonade and ice tea. Chill the drinks in a child size pool filled with ice and use sand pails as wine coolers. Feature alcoholic drinks like Tahitian breeze, sex on the beach, a sea breeze, and mai tai. All this could be served on surf boards with stands on each side holding them up.

There is nothing that screams the beach like the sand. Build a sandbox on the dance floor that can be cleaned out and removed at the end of the night. You can buy prepackaged, bagged sand called play sand in bulks and fill the sandbox dance floor with it. Ask the guests to bring their favorite flip flops, or step into the sand barefoot so they can dance the night away on the beach. The rest of the place should be decorated with sea shells and colored sand.

The music should also have a beach theme. The Beach Boys are always a good place to start with songs like Surfin’ USA, I Get Around, and Kokomo. If you want to be playful, you can play Under the Sea from the Little Mermaid.

A must have for a beach themed wedding is to play a mood tape of ocean sounds to always have the feeling of standing under the wide open sky, with the waves crashing behind you.

To ensure your guests will have fond memories of your wedding, send them home with beach theme wedding favors in the form of a plastic shovel that has the date and the names of the happy couple written on the handle.
