Inspiring Edible Wedding Cake Decoration Ideas
If you're baking your own wedding cake or a friend is generously
doing it for you or if you are ordering it from your local
bakery, you can plan for any shape of cake and edible wedding
cake decoration. Edible wedding cake decoration can make your
cake look special without much effort and investment.
First of all, your cake needs to be level. If individual layers
are fairly level, you can stack them with frosting, put filling
in between with the tops together, giving a very even outer
surface for the frosting. Now it's time for your edible wedding
cake decoration.
There are many items that you can use in your edible wedding
cake decoration, such as fruits, nuts, candy, cookies, sugar
crystals, edible paint, sparkling edible glitter and even
flowers.
Depending upon the season and your budget you can have fresh/
frozen fruits in your cake. Either they can be used as filler or
as decorations. We all have heard of strawberry cakes. Many
berries are considered to be used as edible wedding cake
decoration, such as strawberries, raspberries, blueberries and
blackberries.
Another favorite choice of decoration in cakes is nuts, though
not so much for edible wedding cake decoration. Wedding cakes
usually are decorated with flowers are other figure/items
signifying the marriage. Sugar is the baker’s delight. He / she
can make any figure from sugar. Sugar can be melted and reset to
form shapes or it can be mixed with butter, cream or cheese to
make tasty toppings.
Decorated flowers can made from sugar and color can be added to
them. These colors are edible. The color can be mixed to the
sugar before making the flowers or as many bakers do, paint the
flowers later. These flowers can sometimes be made well in
advance and stored before the actual ceremony.
If you wish you can use edible flowers too for your edible
wedding cake decoration. However, remember you should use them
if they are organically grown. If you can't pick the flowers the
day of the wedding, store them, except for chicory, on plates in
your fridge with a bit of water.
There are many flowers which you can use like Chicory - it
offers a spicy bitter taste, or Lavender – it has a perfumed
taste or Nasturtium which has a peppery taste. One of the
popular choices is rose which offers a mild sweet taste. Another
sweet tasting flower is the Pansy.
Not only do these flowers offer taste or fragrance, they create
a visual appeal for the cake. You can get roses and pansy in
your choice of color. Nasturtium comes in warm color while
chicory and lavender come in colors of purple and lavender. If
you wish for a pink color you can go in for oregano and
marjoram.
After all the preparation you have done and not to mention the
money you have spent for a beautiful and elaborate edible
wedding cake decoration, you wouldn’t want it fall apart, tilt
or melt away. Unfortunately, this scenario occurs all too often,
especially at summer weddings, but it can be prevented. However,
don’t worry. Rescue is on your way. With the following few
simple steps you can ensure that your cake will stay good till
the end of your ceremony:
- By considering your location, choose a cake that works best in
that location. For example, if you are having your ceremony on a
boat, avoid a cake with pillars between the layers. It is more
likely to tip or collapse than those in which the layers are
stacked on top of one another or placed on individual pedestals.
- Incase you have the ceremony outdoors, first place the cake in
a refrigerator. If refrigeration is not an option keep the cake
indoors or at least in the shade.
- Or better, have the cake delivered as late as possible so that
it doesn’t stand for several hours before being cut.
- Place the cake in a level position. Check the legs of the
table you are going to place the cake on; otherwise, the layers
may tip or slide.
