Home Wedding Decorations: Inexpensive Ways to Find or Create Them

Home weddings can be wonderfully warm and happy occasions. They can combine the best memories of a childhood with the beginning of a new family. However, even a home wedding can be costly, so here are some ways find great home wedding decorations while sticking to a budget.

Doorway and Driveway Appeal

Besides your invitation, the driveway and front door are the first places to give your guests an idea of the mood of the home wedding. It sets the stage, so although you don’t want to waste valuable budget funds on the front door, you do want it to seem festive. If your wedding is during the day and the name of the game is fun, consider balloon wedding decorations and a sign by the driveway announcing the “Smith – Brown” wedding.

The balloons should be in your wedding colors or you can go with the traditional white, silver or gold colors that will make it hard for guests to miss.

If balloons aren’t your style, you could consider covering some of the available shrubs with tulle or place a large inexpensive topiary or two at the end of the drive and cover it with tulle and ribbon. These home wedding decorations will add punch without draining your budget.

At the front door greet guests with a lovely bow in your wedding colors. The fabric and bows can be purchased fairly cheaply at a craft or bridal store. You can even learn how to make lovely fancy bows from a book.

Flowers Decoration

I know brides who have spent thousands on flowers for their wedding. It can be one of the most expensive decorations. Even the bridal bouquet alone can cost hundreds of dollars. However, this is also one of the easiest ways to save a large amount of those home wedding decor budget dollars.

My first recommendation would be to go silk and do it yourself. Make your own bouquet and those of your bridesmaids; it will add a lovely sentimental feel. Centerpieces are easy to do with some flower foam and inexpensive holders. Pails make for adorable flower holders for a summer wedding. Small glass bowls and vases can be had in a variety of shapes, sizes and colors from crafting stores for just a few dollars.

If there is time before your wedding, make an effort to shop craft sales for the flowers because you can save as much as half of the cost during a good sale. However, if your heart is set on fresh flowers, take a look at the large discount stores such as Costco and Sam’s Club. These places often have gorgeous fresh flowers that you can purchase in large amounts for much less than a florist would charge.

If you don’t feel comfortable crafting your own bouquet this way, have the bouquet done by a florist and use the fresh flowers from a discount club or grocery store to place around the house on special tables. Keep in mind that a little can go a long way in designing home wedding decorations. Make the most impact by using flowers at the cake table, the buffet table and near the guest book.

Lighting

Lighting is a detail that most people forget when planning their home wedding decor. Trying to get the romantic atmosphere with a glaring overhead light can be a bit of a problem.

One solution I used in my own wedding was rope lighting. We wound it around the bottom of the room of the ceremony to provide some lovely, soft indirect lighting. It also works well on plant shelves and can be used later in your own home or for other special occasions. White Christmas lights also can be used, and you probably already own some or know someone happy to provide them for the wedding.

Candles can also make a lovely soft glow and work especially well on the guest tables and food tables. You can purchase loads of white candles and inexpensive candle holders super cheap, and you can give the holders away at the end of the night with a fresh candle to remind guests of your special event.

A wonderful home wedding doesn’t need to cost a bundle. Do some of it yourself, and take advantage of inexpensive bulk buys and you will have gorgeous home wedding decorations, lovely memories and money to spare for the honeymoon.
