Consider Column Wedding Decoration for Your Big Day

Adding columns to the decor of your wedding ceremony setting can provide a touch of elegance and splendor to the affair. Column wedding decoration may not be necessary, but it is an option you should consider. Like everything in a wedding, the column wedding decorations you choose depends on the wedding theme.  Columns for decorating a wedding come in many shapes, sizes and colors.

For a traditional wedding theme that employs black and white wedding decorations, you may want to go with the Roman column look. Your best choice would be white fluted columns. These props come in two standard heights, eight feet and four feet. The four foot columns are typically called pedestals.

Another prop you should consider to decorate your wedding is balustrades. These are typically four foot or two foot high assemblies consisting of a rail supported by posts. A balustrade makes a useful wedding decoration because they can be used to section off areas at wedding ceremonies and wedding receptions. Again, for a traditional themed wedding, you probably want to go with the rich Roman column look, so use white balustrades with fluted balusters.

To spruce up the white columns and balustrades, consider decorating them with wedding flower arrangements as floral topiaries. You can also add tulle decoration to the mix by wrapping it around the columns or draping it from the top. Coupled with floral wedding decorations, this creates beautifully romantic wedding decor. Add mixed strings of pink, white and ivory balloons anchored at the tops of the columns to create a wedding column arch.

If you’re decorating for an Asian wedding theme, think red, white and black. Think fans and dragons. One decorative wedding column idea would be to create square columns with white background and black crisscross lines to create a paper house look. For an little extra touch, you may want to use glossy black painted wood slats to make the crisscross design.

Add topiaries in the form of giant decorative oriental fans or bonsai trees. Again, to create a wedding column arch, use a fat string of red balloons anchored to the tops of the columns. Finish decorating each column by hanging small round paper lanterns from the column crowns.

By doing a little imaginative brainstorming based on the wedding theme, wedding column decoration ideas will begin to pour forth. For the traditional wedding, you may be able to rent the columns from a party or wedding supply store.
