Planning Wedding Chapel Decorations

One of the most forgotten items at a wedding is the wedding chapel decoration. The first thing your guests will notice is how the church is decorated. The decorations at the wedding chapel will give them an idea of what to expect at the reception. If you've hired a florist, they will be able to decorate the chapel for you and many will take down the floral decorations at the chapel and bring them to the reception as well. Wedding chapel decorations include archway garlands, candelabras and pew decorations.

The bride can choose the wedding chapel decoration theme or ask her florist to design one for her. Once you have given the florist your wedding colors, she can design your bouquet, chapel pew decorations and any other wedding chapel decorations that you choose. The florist will also be able to help you with questions about wedding decorations in the chapel. Some chapels have constraints on what you can decorate with in the building because of fire codes.

Chapel pew decorations are simple and are used to direct friends and family members to the pews in which you want them to sit. The decorations are usually made of tulle, ribbon and fresh or silk flowers. The bride and bridesmaids can make these wedding chapel decorations or they can be purchased. Simple cards taped to the ends of the pews will indicate the names of the guests to be seated there.

A popular wedding chapel decoration is the red or white carpet down the center aisle. The chapel may have one that you can use or you can rent one from a party rental store. Be sure that the rug is rolled out a few hours before the wedding so that it lays flat. You wouldn't want your wedding party members tripping down the aisle. The rug can also be secured with double-sided sticky rug tape for this purpose to help keep it flat. If your wedding is in the evening, you can also use strands of white lights secured with tape alongside the carpet in the center aisle.

Archways are also popular places to decorate at wedding chapels. These create a frame for photographs to be taken after the wedding ceremony. The easiest way to decorate these areas is to either use large sprays or garlands. Make sure that they are secure on at least 3 points above the archway to keep them from falling on your guests. Fresh flowers are heavy and need to be secured carefully. Be sure to have permission from the wedding chapel before using any nails or screws in the building.

Candelabras at the front and sides of the church can be decorated with sprays or garlands of flowers and ribbon. If you are having an evening wedding you can choose the color of the tapers used. Your florist can help you with choosing the right decorations for the candelabras.

Any wedding chapel decoration that you choose will set the tone for your reception. If you have very few decorations or it looks like you forgot them all together, your guests may expect the same at your reception. A tastefully appointed chapel will set the scene for the photos taken after the wedding ceremony and will give your guests a glimpse of the beautiful reception to follow.
