Choosing Floral Wedding Decor For Your Special Day

Brides who love flowers will ultimately choose a variety of floral arrangements to use on their special day. Brides can choose subtle floral wedding decor or use unusual plants and arrangements to make a modern statement. Either way, there is a wide variety of fresh plants available. And if you want a particular plant that isn't in season, silk flowers can be used as a substitute. In the end, the floral wedding decor you choose for your special day can be as unique as you are.

The wedding starts at the church, so think about your pew decorations first. Simple church pew floral decoration can be bunches of flowers tied with a gros grain ribbon and attached to the sides of the pews. Other floral decorations used at the church include the sprays on the candelabras, garlands hung around the doorways and depending on the season, wreaths on the front door of the church.

Alternately, floral wedding decoration arrangements can be placed at the entry of the church in containers or hung from the existing lighting wires at the entry to the church. Brides can pick any type of flower for any time of year if they use silk flowers, otherwise they will need to choose flowers that the florist can obtain.

Floral wedding decoration arrangements during the winter can include roses, calla lilies, poinsettias and carnations. Spring weddings can use more exotic flowers such as snowdrops, tulips, hyacinths, daffodils, lilies and bluebells. Summer wedding flower decoration choices are numerous and include peonies, pansies, cornflowers, poppies, bachelors buttons, sunflowers and many more. Fall flower decoration for weddings can include black-eyed Susans, tiger lilies, chrysanthemums and zinnias.

The floral wedding decor at the reception hall may include more variations on the church decorations. The centerpieces used for floral wedding table decoration are usually the most elaborate floral decoration during the celebration. If you have long tables you can use larger centerpieces as floral table wedding decoration; use smaller groupings when people are sitting at a smaller round table or they won't be able to see around the centerpiece to talk to each other.

Beautiful larger centerpieces can be made of large collections of seasonal flowers and placed in urns. Surround the bottom of the urns with greenery and smaller flowers and mingle a matching ribbon amongst the leaves. Your punchbowl doesn't have to be ignored either. Place a large wreath of greenery interspersed with your favorite flowers around the base of the punchbowl or elevate the punchbowl on a fancy cake plate so you can place larger flowers around the bowl.

A new way of displaying flowers is to select smaller containers and submerge the blooms only in the water, having a few of the blooms sticking out on top. The blooms will stay fresh throughout your celebration and the arrangement is perfect for small tables. Asian inspired weddings are now using willow branches for their centerpieces. They can be accented with your favorite color of orchid.

Don't forget that you may also use both faux and real flowers on your wedding cake. Some flowers, such as violets and roses may also be crystallized with egg whites and sugar, thus making them beautiful and edible. Favorite fresh flowers to use on cakes are daisies, roses and mums.

Many brides decorate their guests chairs with flowers, too. Use tulle to gather around the chair at the top and secure in the back with a large safety pin. Secure a large flower in the gathered area at the safety pin. Be sure to cut the stems short enough or arrange them so that they don't poke your guests in the back while they are seated.

The quantity of the flowers you use for your floral wedding decor isn't as important as the quality of the flowers you use. If you can't find beautiful flowers, use silk ones. Many times you can't tell the difference and you won't have to worry about them wilting at your ceremony.

Getting the right floral wedding decor for your special day can be frustrating. If you consult with your local florist in the early planning stages, you can avoid last minute problems and you'll be able to enjoy the beautiful floral wedding decor, and all your hard work, on your special day.
