Touchdown! How to Plan A Sports Wedding Theme

If you and your significant other are sports junkies, if you never miss the “big game” and if you consider the Superbowl, World Cup and Master's Tournament national holidays, then you may want to have a sports wedding theme to celebrate your marriage.

Sports wedding themes can be a great way for couples to share their love of sport with each other and their guests, and it can be a very fun wedding to plan and attend.

Decorating for a sports wedding can be loads of fun as well as a great way to share your personality with your guests. If you can't get enough of football or soccer or golf, then you may want to focus on one sport and decorate the wedding according to that one particular sport. Or, you can mix and match different sports to create more variety in your decorating.

Since the invitation is the first thing guests will see when you announce your wedding, be creative and design it with a sports theme in mind. For example, you may want to create mock basketball or football tickets and write the information about your wedding on each ticket. Additionally, you could cut out invitations in shapes that illustrate your favorite sport (soccer ball, golf clubs, etc) or sports team (San Francisco 49er jersey or helmet).

Decorating for a sports wedding theme can be lots of fun and a nice way to get friends and families involved. Make every table a different sports team and then have trivia throughout the night where each team “plays” against one another. This is a good way to encourage guests to mingle and interact.

You can also have each table make bets on sports games that may be going on during the month of your wedding (NCAA or golf tournaments) and then award the “winning” guests with related prizes.

Use your imagination when you're selecting the food and drink you serve at your wedding and make it consistent with your sports wedding theme. For example, if you have a football theme wedding, then it might be fun to serve buffalo wings and beer as appetizers.

If baseball is your sport of choice (and the theme for your wedding) you can serve guests popcorn, hot dogs and long ropes of licorice. Not only is this type of food different from that served at more “traditional” weddings, but generally it's well liked by the majority of guests (including the young people at the wedding!).

Another way to make your sports wedding theme fun is to have a variety of games that guests can participate in during the reception. If you have your wedding in large space, you may want to set up a putting green or a basketball hoop on one side of the room. This will give guests the opportunity to do something different during your reception and it also serves as a great backdrop for your sports wedding theme.

Having a sports wedding theme is a great option for the couple who enjoys playing, watching and participating in the world of sports. A sports wedding theme is a nice way to have a laid back, fun and easy going wedding that is full of games and excitement.

If you're a sports junkie and want to share your love of sport with friends and family, then having a sports wedding theme is a great choice for you on your special day.
