Get Squared With A Black And White Wedding Theme

Do you love sharp lines, bold contrasts and the unexpected? Then a lack and white wedding theme may be the perfect wedding decor for you.

Start planning your black and white theme weddng by selecting the perfect locale—a retro spot, or contemporary building with plenty of sleek silver and straight lines. An art deco museum would also be ideal. Decorate your wedding hall with black and white everything—and then add a touch of red for a classic look, or streaks of silver to add pizzazz to the look. Use black tablecloths for an unexpected look and then add silver or white square lines to top them.

On top of the tables, you can place clear glass vases filled with black marbles for a great black and white decorative look. For a great finishing touch, wrap a strand of pearls around the vases. You can also use black and white glass vases and fill them with red roses. Other great centerpiece decorations for black and white theme weddings are art deco statues, or tall ostrich feathers in square cut vases.

Your invitations should be absolute art deco. Accomplish this by using sharp geometric designs in black, white and silver. If you marbleize the invitations, they will even be more dramatic. Tell you guests about your black and white wedding theme, and ask them dress appropriately.

Play up the geometric decor by carrying it through in the wedding cake. You can create large squares, topped with various triangles, rectangles and circles in a different color. Top the cake with a 1920’s couple—in black and white, of course!

Your wedding dress should be as dramatic as your black and white theme wedding decorations. You can either choose to wear a traditional white dress, with black accents, and then long strings of pearls or ostrich features, or you could wear a period piece—a flapper dress with lots of fringe and button-up heels. Don’t forget the steamed stockings!

Dress your groom in a traditional black and white tux with a red belt. Ask him to slick back his hair. (Just this once!)

Your band should be full of energy and be able to swing to the tunes of jazz. Think Duke Ellington and Billie Holiday. Create a backdrop of silver streamers to place behind the band.

Your black and white theme wedding getaway vehicle needs will be fabulous in a rented period car. Look for a model T, or a classic 1920’s Cadillac to whisk you away as a jazz quartet follows the wedding party out belting out a tune that keeps everyone hoping long after you’re gone.
