Ideas for a Texas Country Wedding
If you're getting married in Texas - or just want a good
old-fashioned Texas country wedding - you're sure to be
looking for ideas for a Texas country wedding. From
setting to attire, from flowers and arrangements to
music and dancing, we've got some great ideas for a
Texas country wedding that will be remembered by all of
your friends for years as one of the most rollicking
parties they've ever attended.
What goes into making a great country wedding? Start off
with all your friends, add one great backyard, a
barbecue grill, some of the most dramatic flowers in the
country and shake up with the best country music you can
find. If you'd rather set up indoors, a clean barn makes
a great hoedown hall, with plenty of space for dancing
and groaning tables full of food.
We've rounded up some of the best ideas for a Texas
country wedding for you. There are food ideas,
decorating suggestions, suggestions for wedding favors
and more. If you're planning a country hoedown, wander
through these ideas for a Texas country wedding and help
yourself to the best.
Ideas for Texas Country Wedding Decorations
Go for the gingham - blue, red or green checked
tablecloths and napkins say country in a big way. Roll
the napkins and tuck them into straw napkin rings with
brightly colored raffia flowers. Keep your centerpieces
natural and simple, too. Baskets of wildflowers with
bows and ribbons are perfect along the buffet tables and
at the banquet tables. If you want something a little
more 'country cute', you can fill watering cans with
bouquets of wildflowers. Or, for a touch of the Old
West, pick up vases in the shape of a cowboy boot to
hold daisies, Queen Anne's lace and goldenrod.
Not a wildflower type of gal? Here's an idea for a Texas
country wedding centerpiece - a baby saguaro cactus in a
painted Mexican terracotta pot. Pick a plant saucer
that's about six inches wider than the terracotta pot,
center the cactus on it, and surround it with wrapped
wedding favors for your guests.
Music Ideas for a Texas Country Wedding
Country music, of course! But don't stop there. Pick a
band that can keep a good two-step going for hours, and
change it up with a mix of hard-driving Southern rock
and cowboy ballads. If you're up for it, hire a band
with a square dance caller, and get your guests up on
the floor for a few rounds of do-si-do and promenades.
Food Ideas for a Texas Country Wedding
With all that dancing and foot-stomping, you'll want to
serve hearty, stick-to-your-ribs fare. Keep the chili
pots simmering, and fire up the grills for barbecue
ribs, chicken and the best thick-cut steaks you can
find. Make sure there's plenty of salad - potato,
macaroni and fresh garden - with a variety of dressings.
Skip the champagne fountain for a Texas country wedding
- it just doesn't work well with ribs and steak.
Instead, fill a couple of huge cans with cracked ice and
cold beer. Pick a couple of great table wines - in a
jug, of course - from a bottler like Three Thieves, who
pick up some of the best varietals on the bulk wine
market and bottle them up in good old country jugs.
